At the Environmental Department, we work for the county's sustainable development from environmental, economic, and social perspectives. We handle issues such as environmentally hazardous operations, protection and maintenance of valuable nature, as well as the management of water and national parks. Our staff works both in the field and in the office.
Örebro County is a landscape characterized by lakes, watercourses, and wetlands that are crucial for both biodiversity and human quality of life. At the "Art and Landscape" unit, we work to strengthen ecosystems and achieve environmental goals by coordinating measures, analyzing environmental data, and collaborating with stakeholders in the county. We are now looking for a Water Management Officer who wants to help develop the county's water environments – from fish passes to restored wetlands.
Job Description
As a Water Management Officer at the County Administrative Board of Örebro, you will become an important part of our team working to improve the water environments in the county. You will handle various assignments that enable water conservation measures in the county; a diverse role ranging from administrative tasks to fieldwork.
In this role, you will support and drive water management assignments, for example within water action programs and the restoration of watercourses. You will collaborate with municipalities, authorities, and other actors to achieve the environmental quality standards in the River Basin Districts' action programs. You will contribute your expertise to the work on the national plan for reviewing the environmental conditions of hydropower, with a special focus on fish passes and environmentally adapted water regulation. You will also participate in various projects handled by other units at the County Administrative Board.
You will have good opportunities for professional development within your area of responsibility. Your tasks will be adjusted based on the government's directives to the County Administrative Board, your interests, and your competence.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has
- a degree from a relevant university education, for example with a focus on hydrology, limnic ecology, fish biology, or equivalent as we assess it to be comparable
- good competence in biology, limnology, or a similar field
- good computer skills and experience in writing reports, commission orders, or similar documents
- good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
It is meritorious if you have
- experience in reviewing and assessing investigations regarding environmental adaptations of water operations, such as fish and fauna passages or flow measures
- experience in implementing water and nature conservation projects, such as dam removal, construction of fauna passages, or habitat management in watercourses
- experience in exercising authority at a County Administrative Board, municipality, or similar experience in operating excavator machinery (e.g., in connection with restoration projects)
- experience in working with map and geographic data (GIS)
- ability to absorb and convey information in English.
As a person, you are self-motivated and take responsibility for your tasks. You work efficiently and carefully, even when there is a lot to do. The tasks may vary, and you need to be able to adapt to new priorities. You enjoy collaborating and contribute to a positive work environment. It is important that you can explain complex issues in a pedagogical way and communicate your competence clearly.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability and that you work according to our vision and the public sector's values.
A Category B driver's license is required.
Employment
The employment is fixed-term for one year. We offer opportunities for flexible working arrangements, where part of the work can be performed remotely when operations allow.
As an employee, you will receive
- generous vacation benefits
- opportunities for professional development within your field
